Tips for Slimming Down Your Wedding Budget
Practical ideas for saving money on your big day
The average cost of a wedding in America is 28,000 dollars and this number is rising along with inflation. However you don't need to empty your life savings all in one day. Here are some simple tips to save money while still having the wedding you always dreamed of:
- Stay local, and utilize local contacts - friends and family members may give you discounts. Use a local photographer and florist so you don't have to pay for their travel expenses.
- Only invite your nearest and dearest, keep numbers small and intimate.
- Look for online deals for the dress. eBay and Craig’s List are good places to start.
- You could also look for a beautiful evening gown, which would look fabulous as a wedding dress.
- Get flowers that are in season. You could also consider buying them on line and arranging them yourself.
- In the warmer months consider an outside wedding, on the beach or in the park.
- Consider getting a cake from an upscale grocery store such as Whole Foods.
- Do your own hair and make up or get a close friend to do it. It will probably look more natural and you can always practice before hand.
- Have a buffet in place of a sit down meal.
- Have the men wear suits instead of tuxedos.
Most important, relax and smile often. It's the best day of your life and happiness is free.
